Micro-Finance for Youth
Our training programs are just one step in our overall youth empowerment
strategy. After young people get all the training and necessary counselling,
what's next? They need to move ahead, but to move ahead, they need a start...our
Micro-finance program do just that...give them a start!
Youth Crime Watch of Liberia is a non-for-profit organization working towards
the development of young people throughout Liberia. During the beginning of
every year, young people from different parts of Liberia enroll in our training
programs. During these programs, we provide them with adequate business ideas
and IT knowledge. After acquiring the knowledge, they need to get employed or
start off with a business of their own.
To augment their start off, we provide them with some financial loan under our
Micro-Finance Loan Scheme. According to the article that created this program,
young people who benefit from this program are given considerable length of time
to repay the loans.
While they still have have our loans, we set up a team of monitoring and
evaluation officers who monitor their progress. Theses officers gather regular
reports from the youth and use the reports to evaluate whether or not the youth
get more support. Our Micro-finance program is also supported by donors.
Currently, youth petit trading is one of the most common businesses in Liberia.
Youth Crime Watch of Liberia is venturing in organizing these businesses to
ensure that youth involved do not go beyond government bounds and also that they
get all the necessary tax waivers and other forms of government support.
