Bong County is situated in central Liberia, bordered by Nimba County to the northeast, Grand Bassa County to the southwest, Lofa County to the northwest, Margibi County to the southeast, and River Cess County to the south. Gbarnga serves as the capital city of Bong County and has a population of over 360,000 people. Bong County’s economy is predominantly agricultural. The region’s fertile land supports various crops such as rubber, cocoa, coffee, rice, and other subsistence crops. Mining, particularly iron ore extraction, is also a significant economic activity. Bong County is home to educational institutions and healthcare facilities. Gbarnga hosts Cuttington University, one of Liberia’s oldest and most prominent institutions of higher learning.
