Success Story of Joshua Williams passed TVET beneficiary

My name is Joshua William, I am 15 years of age, and in the third grade. I am currently living with my Aunty in Joe Blow’s Town, Unification City, Lower Margibi County. My both parents live in the rural part of Grand Bassa County so they ask my Aunty for me to live in Unification Town so I can get a quality education I didn’t go to school for two years since I got here instead my Aunty has been asking me to sell so we can generate my school fees but God his own way of solving my problems. Amazingly, today he is using the Youth Crime Watch of Liberia.

When I heard about the UNICEF sponsor project implemented by Youth Crime Watch of Liberia, I decided to take advantage of the TVET component of the program by enrolling to do Cosmetology because I had previous knowledge of hair breading.

Since I enrolled in the program, it has helped me and exposed me to many styles of beautification. I completed the program, received my start-up package, and got a place at Gartue Beauty Salon for job training, this has helped me gain lots of experience. Though the project cycle is over for me the salon has asked that I stay for a paid job as I continue to add up to my experience. Now I am known in my school, community, and workplace to be one of the best male teenage hair stylists in Unification Town.

With the skills I have acquired through the Let Us Learn project, I have been able to self-enroll back in school. With the money I acquired through the services I provide; I am now able to take care of myself without the help of anyone. Now I can proudly say that I have an income-generating activity and am committed to ensuring that I keep growing and becoming a better hair stylist in Unification Town and Liberia at large.

With the ways the program has helped me, I would like to recommend to UNICEF and Youth Crime Watch of Liberia to please continue with this program because there are a lot of my friends and other young people are still out there wishing they could gain some skills that can help them become self-sustainable. Finally, I want to appreciate the entire team at the Unification Town Safe Space, Youth Crime Watch of Liberia team, and UNICE-Liberia for supporting the project in our community. “I am very grateful to God and to UNICEF for empowering me and very soon I will be a business owner”
