YCWL Announces Nine New Savings Groups on Nimba Radio

On August 8, 2026, the Project Manager of Youth Crime Watch of Liberia (YCWL) Mr. Sizi De Blessed Ford, appeared on Voice of Nimba in Ganta City, Nimba County, as part of efforts to raise public awareness about the Liberia Spotlight Initiative 2.0 (LSI 2.0).

During the radio discussion, Sizi explained the overall aim and objectives of LSI 2.0, with particular emphasis on Spotlight Initiative 2.0’s goal of ending violence against women and girls. The discussion also provided an opportunity to inform the people of Nimba County about the activities being implemented under the Spotlight Initiative, the counties covered by the project, and the key beneficiary groups being targeted.

The discussion further highlighted the livelihood and economic empowerment component of the initiative and how it’s expected to improve the livelihoods of vulnerable women and girls, particularly former Zoes, FGM Survivors, Girls At-Risk of FGM, and SGBV Survivors. These interventions can provide beneficiaries with practical skills, economic opportunities, and stronger pathways toward sustainable livelihoods.

They also discussed the establishment of nine Village Savings and Loan Associations (VSLAs) across Montserrado, Nimba and Lofa Counties. The VSLAs will help beneficiaries develop a culture of saving, access small loans, strengthen their financial management capacity, and support income-generating activities. The groups will also be linked with appropriate financial institutions to improve their access to formal financial services and create opportunities for long-term financial inclusion.

The media engagement served as an important platform for increasing public understanding of LSI 2.0, promoting community awareness, and ensuring that people in Nimba County are informed about the opportunities and interventions available through the Liberia Spotlight initiative.
